Smart Scan — Homework to Quest in 30 Seconds
The full scan flow
What the detection screen shows you
"We found a homework worksheet — math worksheet." What We Detected: Skill Areas (1): 3-digit subtraction with regrouping · 15 problems detected · Grade Estimate: Grade 2. "We'll convert these problems into quest questions. Quest will use the 15 problems from your worksheet." Two buttons at the bottom: Rescan and Generate Quest.
This is Mode A — a homework worksheet. SolveQuest detected 15 numbered math problems about 3-digit subtraction with regrouping, estimated Grade 2, and will convert each problem directly into a quest question. Your child's homework becomes their quest.
Ready to quest
After detection, the Today screen shows the scanned worksheet ready: a thumbnail preview of the worksheet image, "IMG_5806.png (298KB) · Ready to quest!" and a gold Go! button with the crossed-swords icon. Tap Go! to start immediately.
Mode A — Homework worksheet
Numbered problems with blank answer spaces. SolveQuest extracts each problem exactly as written — including inline arithmetic, fractions, and multi-step problems. The quest uses the real problems from your child's actual homework. You can also add a second page if the worksheet continues: "Is there a second page? + Add it →"
Two-page worksheets are supported. After the first scan completes, a prompt appears to add the second page.
Mode B — Study guide or skills sheet
Spelling lists, weekly skill reviews, vocabulary sheets — where there are no numbered problems to solve, SolveQuest detects the curriculum topics and generates fresh original practice questions. Spelling words are read aloud by the companion via TTS. You can choose how many questions to generate (6, 8, 10, or 12).
Tips for best scan results
- Lay the worksheet flat on a contrasting surface (dark table works well)
- Ensure the full page is visible — don't cut off edges
- Good lighting matters more than camera quality
- Handwritten student answers don't affect detection — SolveQuest reads the printed problems
- If detection fails, SolveQuest falls back to Mode A automatically
No homework? Describe a Quest
Type or speak what you need in plain language. "Ander needs to practice counting by 5s." "Spelling test Friday with these 10 words." "She's struggling with reading comprehension." The AI builds a targeted quest around your description in seconds. No worksheet required.
Getting Started
The Today screen

Tap Scan Homework to photograph any worksheet. Tap Start Quest for the curriculum recommendation. Tap Choose a Quest to pick subject and topic manually.

How a quest loads
After tapping Start Quest or Go!, the companion's avatar appears: "Consulting the ancient scrolls..." (Quill) or "Rocco is stomping up your quest..." (Rocco) with a progress bar. The AI generates questions calibrated to your child's grade.
Concept intro before new topics
Before a Scholar child's first encounter with a new concept, their companion offers to review the lesson first. The intro shows the concept explanation in the companion's voice, slide progress dots, a TTS speaker button, and a "Skip intro →" link. After, the quest begins.
A quest in progress
ELA Reading · Main Idea. Question 1 of 9. A reading passage about sports specialization appears above four answer choices. Subject badge shows exactly what's being practiced. Speaker button reads the question aloud. Orange Hint button opens the companion's micro-lesson if needed.

The detection screen shows skill areas found, problem count, and grade estimate before starting. The quest uses your child's actual homework problems. A study guide or skills sheet (Mode B) triggers original practice generation from the curriculum topics detected.
