Getting Started
From sign-up to first quest in under 5 minutes
1

Create your account

Go to app.solvequest.study and sign up with Google or your email address. If you have a beta access code (like SOLVEQUEST2026), enter it on the signup screen to unlock Scholar features free.

2

Add your first learner

Enter your child's name and grade level. SolveQuest supports K–8 across all four subjects. You can add more children later from the family settings.

3

Choose how to start

From the home screen you have two options: 📸 Scan a Worksheet — photograph any homework paper and we'll build the quest in 30 seconds. Or 🔮 Oracle Quest — pick a subject and topic and we'll generate questions instantly.

4

Complete the quest

Your child answers questions, earns XP and coins, and builds their rank. You'll receive an automatic email summary when they finish — no login required on your end.

SolveQuest works best on a tablet or phone where your child can take photos of worksheets directly. It also works great on a desktop or laptop.
📸
Scanning Worksheets
Any paper, any school, any subject — converted in 30 seconds
1

Tap "Scan Worksheet" on the home screen

This opens your device camera or file picker. You can photograph a physical worksheet or upload a PDF or image file from your device.

2

Take a clear, well-lit photo

Lay the worksheet flat on a surface. Make sure the entire page is visible and there's no glare. Our AI can read printed text, handwritten questions, and typed worksheets. Hold the camera steady for best results.

3

Wait 20–30 seconds

SolveQuest reads every question on the worksheet and converts it into the right question format — multiple choice, column math, fill-in-the-blank, spelling, and more. Identical worksheets are cached so the second scan of the same sheet is instant.

4

The quest begins

Questions appear one at a time in the game engine. Some worksheet actions (like "circle the correct answer") are automatically converted to tap-able buttons. Your child never needs to write anything — all answers are digital.

For best scan results: use good lighting, hold the phone directly above the worksheet (not at an angle), and make sure the whole page fits in frame.
Physical actions like "draw a line" or "color the shape" are converted to multiple choice questions asking your child to choose the correct answer. Scanning works best for question-and-answer format worksheets.
🔮
Oracle Quest
AI-generated practice on any topic — no worksheet needed

Oracle Quest lets you generate a custom practice session for any K–8 topic in seconds. Perfect for extra practice, test prep, or when there's no homework assigned but you want your child to keep their streak going.

1

Tap "Oracle Quest" on the home screen

Available to all tiers. Free (Explorer) accounts get 3 Oracle Quests per month. Paid accounts get unlimited Oracle Quests.

2

Choose your settings

Select Grade (pre-filled from your child's profile), Subject (Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies), Topic (e.g. Fractions, Grammar, Earth Systems), and Difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard).

3

Tap "Generate Quest"

The Oracle creates 10 fresh questions in under 10 seconds. Questions are deduplicated against your child's recent history so they won't see the same questions repeatedly.

4

Complete the quest

Same game engine as worksheet quests — XP, coins, effects, and a parent summary email at the end. The Skill Map updates automatically based on performance.

Use Oracle Quest to fill specific skill gaps shown in the Skill Map. If the Skill Map shows "Long Division — Developing," generate an Oracle Quest for 4th Grade → Math → Long Division → Medium to target that exact gap.
⚔️
The Quest Experience
XP, coins, ranks, hints, streaks, and cinematic effects

Every quest is a fully gamified experience. Here's how everything works:

XP & Coins

Your child earns XP and coins for every correct answer. No hints used: 10 XP + 3 coins. 1 hint used: 7 XP + 2 coins. 2 hints: 5 XP + 1 coin. 3+ hints: 3 XP + 1 coin. A perfect session (all correct) gives a 50% bonus on everything.

💡

Hints

Each question has up to 3 progressive hints that guide your child toward the answer without giving it away — Socratic style. Tap the hint button to reveal the next clue. Using fewer hints earns more XP. A Learn More button appears after 3 hints to find lesson content via Google Search.

🔥

Streaks & Combos

Daily streaks reward consecutive days of questing (3-day and 5-day milestones). Combo multipliers fire when your child gets several correct answers in a row — up to ×8. The combo resets on a wrong answer.

🎬

Cinematic Effects

Big moments trigger visual and sound effects: Dragon Fire, Lightning Storm, Star Nova, Coin Blast, and more. These fire at milestone moments like perfect sessions, rank-ups, and long combos. All sounds are generated in real time — no audio files, works offline.

🎁

Bonus Quest

After completing a session, a Bonus Quest becomes available with a 2× multiplier on all XP and coins. This is a great way for motivated kids to double their earnings on topics they're already doing well on.

Voice input is available on text and spelling questions — tap the microphone button so your child can speak their answer instead of typing.
📊
Assessment Mode
Diagnose exactly where your child stands on any topic

Assessment mode is a diagnostic session designed to triangulate your child's true mastery level — not just whether they got lucky on a few questions. It uses mixed difficulty questions and no hints so the results are accurate.

1

Start from the Skill Map or Progress page

Tap "Start Assessment" on any subject. Assessments are available on Family tier and above. Choose a subject — the Oracle generates 10 diagnostic questions at mixed difficulty.

2

No hints in assessment mode

Hints are disabled so the result reflects what your child actually knows. Wrong answers auto-advance after 1.2 seconds — there's no retry. This is intentional: the goal is accurate diagnosis, not performance.

3

Results update the Skill Map

After the assessment, every topic covered is updated in the Skill Map with a precise mastery score. Mastery levels: Not Started → Struggling (0–39%) → Developing (40–64%) → Proficient (65–84%) → Mastered (85–100%).

4

Use results to guide practice

After the assessment, the Suggested Quests section on the home screen and Skill Map will automatically recommend Oracle Quests targeting the weakest topics. The Curriculum Builder (Scholar+) generates a full weekly practice plan from assessment results.

A topic requires a minimum of 5 questions attempted before it can reach "Mastered" status — even with a perfect score. This prevents a single lucky session from inflating the mastery level.
🗺️
Skill Map & Progress
Topic-level mastery across every subject, updated after every quest

The Skill Map is the most powerful feature in SolveQuest. It shows exactly where your child stands on every K–8 topic — not just "they got 80% on the test" but "they've mastered fractions, are developing in long division, and haven't started word problems yet."

🟢

Mastered (85–100%)

Your child has demonstrated solid, consistent understanding of this topic across multiple sessions. The "Stay Sharp" suggestion appears to keep it fresh with periodic challenge-mode quests.

🔵

Proficient (65–84%)

Good understanding but not yet consistent. A few more practice sessions will push this to Mastered. The Curriculum Builder prioritizes proficient topics for challenge-mode quests.

🟡

Developing (40–64%)

Some understanding but clear gaps remain. SolveQuest will suggest Oracle Quests targeting this topic and show a Learn More Google Search link for lesson resources.

🔴

Struggling (0–39%)

This topic needs focused attention. The Curriculum Builder and Suggested Quests prioritize struggling topics first. Consider finding a lesson resource via the Learn More button before the next quest.

The Skill Map uses a blended scoring system — 60% of the score comes from your child's history on this topic, 40% from the most recent session. This means one bad day won't tank a mastered topic, and one good day won't fake mastery.

The Progress page shows your child's overall position against grade-level benchmarks for the current school year. Topics are mapped to Common Core standards with expected mastery dates — so you can see if your child is ahead, on track, or behind for their grade right now, not just at year-end.

📚
Curriculum Builder
Your child's personalized weekly quest plan — Scholar tier and above

The Curriculum Builder generates a structured weekly practice plan based on your child's Skill Map — automatically prioritizing the topics that need the most attention. It's the closest thing SolveQuest has to a full curriculum replacement: no textbook, no lesson planning, just a smart queue of quests matched to your child's actual mastery gaps.

1

Find the Curriculum Builder

Tap the 📚 icon in the bottom navigation bar, or tap "View Quest Plan" on the home screen. Available on Scholar tier and above. Family and Explorer users see a locked preview with an upgrade prompt.

2

Review this week's quest plan

SolveQuest generates 5 suggested quests for the week, prioritized in this order: Struggling topics first → Not started → Developing → Proficient (challenge mode). Each card shows the topic, subject, estimated time (~10 min), and current mastery level.

3

Tap Start on any topic

Tapping ⚔️ Start launches a full practice quest on that topic — with hints, XP, coins, and cinematic effects. It goes directly to the quest with no extra configuration needed. The Curriculum Builder pre-fills the grade, subject, topic, and difficulty.

4

See your mastery progress

After completing the quest you return to the Curriculum Builder. The topic card updates to show the new mastery level — for example Not Started → Developing. If a topic reaches Proficient for the first time, you earn a +100 coin bonus. Mastered earns +200 coins.

5

Switch between This Week and Full Plan

The This Week tab shows 5 priority quests. The Full Plan tab shows every topic in sequence for the school year. You can drag to reorder topics in the weekly plan, or tap Skip → to push a topic to next week.

The Curriculum Builder needs Skill Map data to generate good recommendations. Complete at least one assessment per subject first — then the plan gets much more targeted. The more quests your child completes, the smarter the recommendations become.
The Curriculum Builder requires Scholar tier. If you're on Family tier, you'll see a locked preview. Upgrade from Settings → Subscription to unlock it.

The Overall Progress Score at the top of the Curriculum Builder shows what percentage of grade-level topics your child is on track with for the current school year. Green means on track, amber means some attention needed, red means several topics are behind. If fewer than 3 topics have been assessed it shows "Start your Skill Map" instead of a percentage — complete a few assessments first to get a meaningful score.

🗓️
Weekly Quest Plan & Streak Calendar
Track your child's weekly progress with star ratings and session detail

The home screen shows a 7-day streak calendar with star ratings for each day — not just "did they quest" but "how much did they do." Below it, a weekly summary line shows total quests, XP, streak, and topics improved that week.

1 star — showed up

Your child completed 1 quest that day. Any quest counts — worksheet scan, Oracle Quest, or curriculum quest.

⭐⭐

2 stars — solid session

2 quests completed that day, OR 1 quest with a perfect score (all correct, no wrong answers).

⭐⭐⭐

3 stars — exceptional day

3 or more quests that day, OR a perfect quest plus the bonus quest. Three-star days are worth celebrating.

Tap any day card to see the session detail for that day — what subjects were practiced, scores, and XP earned. Tap a gray (no-session) day card to jump straight to starting a quest.

The weekly summary line below the calendar shows: total quests this week, total XP earned, current streak, and number of topics that improved in mastery level. The "topics improved" count is the most meaningful metric — it directly tracks whether learning is happening, not just whether quests were completed.

Set a weekly quest goal in Settings → Children → Weekly Goal (default: 5 quests/week). When the goal is reached, a celebration fires and your child earns a +50 XP + 25 coin bonus. The goal resets every Monday.

👑
Ranks & XP
An 11-level progression arc designed to span the full K–8 journey

SolveQuest's rank system is designed to take years, not weeks. Rank ceremonies are rare by design — which makes them genuinely meaningful when they happen. A child who starts in Kindergarten and quests 3× per week reaches Legendary Scholar around Grade 7–8.

Parent Notifications
Automatic session summaries — no login required

Every time your child completes a quest, SolveQuest sends you an automatic email summary. You don't need to log in, check a dashboard, or ask your child how it went — the results come to you.

📬

Session complete email

Fires immediately after every quest. Contains: child's name, subject and topic, score (X/10 correct), XP and coins earned, current streak, and rank level. Sent from [email protected].

🔥

Streak milestone emails

Fires at 3-day and 5-day streak milestones. A great moment to celebrate with your child — they earned it.

📅

Weekly digest (Scholar+)

A weekly summary of all sessions, XP earned, topics practiced, and Skill Map progress across all your children. Arrives every Sunday morning.

Manage notification preferences in Settings → Notifications. You can turn off any email type, or route notifications to a different email address than your account email. No child email is ever collected — all notifications go to the parent account only.

Family & Children
Manage multiple learners, PINs, and child profiles
1

Adding a child

From the home screen, tap your profile icon → "Switch Hero""Add Hero". Enter their name and grade. Each child has their own independent rank, XP, coins, and Skill Map.

2

Child limits by tier

Explorer (free): 1 child. Family: up to 4 children. Scholar: up to 6 children. Classroom: up to 40 students. Upgrade at any time from Settings → Subscription.

3

Setting a PIN

If you have multiple children sharing a device, set a 4-digit PIN for each child in Settings → Children → [Child Name] → Set PIN. The PIN is required when switching to that child's profile. PINs prevent siblings from accessing each other's quests.

4

Switching between children

Tap the profile icon on the home screen and select "Switch Hero". If a PIN is set, your child will need to enter it. Each child's active session and progress is completely separate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions
What grades does SolveQuest support?
SolveQuest supports Kindergarten through 8th Grade (K–8) across Math, Reading/ELA, Science, and Social Studies. Topics are aligned to Common Core standards. When you add a child, set their grade and SolveQuest automatically calibrates the content difficulty and benchmark expectations.
Does SolveQuest work with any curriculum?
Yes — completely. SolveQuest is curriculum-agnostic by design. Whether you use a specific curriculum like Saxon Math or Teaching Textbooks, follow a school's assignments, or homeschool without a fixed curriculum, SolveQuest works with whatever your family is already doing. Scan any worksheet from any source, or use Oracle Quest to generate practice on any topic independently.
How does worksheet scanning work on a desktop?
On a desktop, tapping "Scan Worksheet" opens a file picker instead of the camera. You can upload a photo of the worksheet (JPEG or PNG) or a PDF directly. For best results, take the photo on your phone first, then upload the file. Alternatively, use SolveQuest on your phone or tablet where you can photograph worksheets directly.
My child got questions wrong but the session shows "Perfect." Is that a bug?
If you're seeing this, please report it using the feedback button in the app (the flag icon). This is a known issue being actively fixed. The correct behavior is: only sessions where every question was answered correctly on the first attempt (no wrong answers, regardless of hints used) should show "Perfect" and receive the 50% bonus.
Why does the Skill Map show "No assessments yet" after my child completed a quest?
The Skill Map and Progress page update based on Oracle Assessment sessions (not regular worksheet quests). To populate your child's Skill Map, go to Progress → Start Assessment for any subject. After the 10-question assessment completes, the Skill Map updates within about 30 seconds. Regular quests also contribute to mastery scores over time.
Can multiple children share one device?
Yes. From the home screen, tap the profile icon to switch between children. Set a 4-digit PIN for each child (Settings → Children → Set PIN) to prevent siblings from switching profiles without permission. Each child has completely separate progress, rank, XP, and Skill Map data.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Settings → Subscription → Manage Billing. This opens the Stripe customer portal where you can cancel, downgrade, or change your plan. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep full access until then. Your child's progress data is preserved if you resubscribe later.
Is my child's data private and safe?
Yes. We never collect your child's email address. All child data is linked to the parent account only. Parent notification emails go to the parent account email exclusively. We don't sell data to third parties, don't run ads, and don't use child data for any purpose other than providing the SolveQuest service. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What is a beta access code and where do I get one?
During our beta period, new accounts require a beta access code to sign up. The current general access code is SOLVEQUEST2026. Enter it on the signup screen to create your account and unlock Scholar-level features free during the beta. Beta users are never downgraded automatically — your features are locked in.
Where is the Curriculum Builder?
The Curriculum Builder is available on Scholar tier and above. Tap the 📚 icon in the bottom navigation bar, or tap "View Quest Plan" on the home screen. It generates a 5-quest weekly plan based on your child's Skill Map — prioritizing struggling topics first. Each topic card has a Start button that launches a full practice quest with hints, XP, and rewards. You need at least a few Skill Map assessments completed before the recommendations get meaningful.
